The motor vehicle windscreen lock engages the armature directly to provide direct locking action. The vehicle wiper electric motor includes a casing (2) and an armature (8) which consists of a stack of sheets of metal (16). A lock (42) contacts the armature (8) to immobilize it in a chosen position w.r.t the casing. The lock may be L-shaped, and mounted to pivot about an axis (44,46) in the corner of the L. The shorter end of the L-shape moves to engage the sheets of the armature in the locked position, and the longer end of the L is attached to an actuator (22) which moves the element parallel to the axis of the armature. The actuator is attached to the outside surface of the casing, and the locking element passes through an aperture in the side of the casing.
