Vertical stretches of film (4) are clamped by cover walls to the mounting walls attached to the essentially vertical dam walls (1) around the site, so that the film is fixed firmly between the cover and mounting walls, these two walls being secured together above the maximum water level. A number of essentially vertical dam walls define the site boundary, mounting walls are provided extending parallel to the dam walls, and a film is laid on the site floor (B) and secured to the mounting walls so that its top edge (4a) lies above the maximum water level. At least part of the film on the site floor is covered with soil, and the water (W) in the site is pumped out. Independent claims are also included for (a) the film, and (b) an excavation site made using this film.
