A seal for the edge of a component is made by applying a bead of a polymerizable cellular plastic to the edge of the component with an applicator gun and subjecting it to heat to achieve complete polymerisation. A seal for the edge (2) of a component (1) is made by applying a bead (5) of a polymerizable cellular plastic to the edge of the component with an applicator gun (3) and subjecting it to heat to achieve complete polymerisation. The bead is made wide enough to overlap both sides of the component edge slightly, and its two overlapping ends (4) are tapered. A variant uses a second bead applied on top of the first.
