The device allows simple adjustment of cable tension. The anchorage for an overhead suspended cable comprises a support plate (16) which a concave surface against which the cable is pressed, and a rotary cam with a convex surface which is eccentric w.r.t. its pivot. A toothed section of the cam is intended to press a certain length of the cable against the concave support. Either the support or the cam has a projecting tenon which is intended to engage a hole in the other component (cam or support) in order to provide the pivot axis for the cam. A disarmable link is provided between the support and the cam to block rotation of the cam in the direction which would release the cable, so that once clamped the cable is retained until deliberately released. A ratchet mechanism serves to retain this position.
