BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL CONTAINING THERMOPLASTIC STARCH

PURPOSE: A polymer solution of the biodegradable material is used to coat an article including cellulose products such as paper or board, fabrics and textiles and wood at a temperature of higher than 70°C and waterproof the article. CONSTITUTION: The biodegradable polymer material is based on thermoplastic starch comprising at least one hydrophobic biodegradable polymer as a foaming agent or a swelling agent for converting natural starch or starch derivatives to thermoplastic starch. Less than 5 wt.% of the natural starch or starch derivative based on the total weight of the mixture is mixed with water to obtain the thermoplastic starch. The foaming agent or the swelling agent is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic polyester, a copolyester having an aliphatic block and an aromatic block, polyester amide, polyester urethane, polyethylene oxide polymer, polymer glycol and mixtures thereof.
