PURPOSE: Chemical reaction for O-demethylation produces methyl bromide which is difficult to collect. CONSTITUTION: Monosporium olivaceum ATCC36300, Thamnostylum piriforme ATCC8992 and Cunninghamella echinulata are used for stereo selective biotransformation of racemic mixture of formula 3. Monosporium and Thamnostylum transform selectively one of stereoisomers of formula 3 but Cunninghamella does non-selectively. This microbial O-demethylation process which avoids the production of methyl bromide produced by chemical demethylation cut the cost of the process. |
