SURFACE-MOUNT FUSE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: A surface-mountable fuse is to place into and protect an electrical circuit of a printed circuit board or other electrical circuit. CONSTITUTION: A surface-mount fuse(2) includes a substrate(4) having first and second surfaces, each surface having four ends. the substrate also having four sides. The fuse also includes a metal strip(40) evenly attached to the first surface of the substrate with a layer of adhesive material, the layer of adhesive material being disposed between metal strip and the first surface of the substrate. The metal strip has two connection regions(32,34) and a non-linear fuse link therebetween. The fuse link has an upper surface and a side surface, and the fuse also includes two wire leads(50,52) connected to the connection regions and a protective layer disposed on the fuse link. A surface-mount fuse(2) is fabricated by providing an adhesive material and laying the adhesive across substantially the entire first surface of substrate to form a layer of adhesive material; laminating the substrate, the layer of the adhesive material, and the sheet of metal together to form a unitary laminated sheet having a metal surface and a substrate surface; and etching a plurality of patterns in the having a first connection region, a second connection region, and a fuse link therebetween.
