A first yoke (8) arranged a rotatable around magnet (7) has a pole section radially opposite the magnet and an overhang section extending radially inwards. A second yoke (9) surrounds the magnet and co-operates with the magnet and the first yoke to form a magnetic loop. A signal generator (15) between the two overhang sections is responsive to rotation of the magnet relative to the yokes and detects the magnetic flux density through the yokes. The pole section of the second yoke is diametrically opposite that of the first yoke. The overhang section of the second yoke is opposite that of the first. The signal generator generates an output signal indicative of the flux density.
