The invention relates to nicotianamine synthase genes, the isolation and use thereof. The invention can be used in agriculture and environmental protection. According to the invention, nicotianamine synthases and the genes coding for the latter are isolated and sequenced. Special embodiment examples are based on isolation from barley or tomatoes.
