1,134,393. Handling bobbins. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP. 2 Dec., 1965 [3 Dec., 1964], No. 51250/65. Heading D1F [Also in Division G1] Bobbins or quills 12, having been unwound e.g. at a winding machine 10 are inspected for yarn left thereon as they pass to a further position e.g. the automatic loading station of a spinning frame. The bobbins pass along a conveyor 20 to be inspected by a photo-cell 52 receiving the reflected light from a light source 51. If the bobbin has more than, say 2 inches of yarn therealong then the photocell 52 actuates via a circuit (Fig. 5, not shown) a solenoid operated air nozzle 24 to blow the bobbin into a container 22 or onto a conveyor. If there is less yarn on the bobbin it passes to a second photo-cell 54 which reacts to any yarn on the bobbin and actuates an air nozzle 28 which blows the bobbin into a container 26 or onto a conveyor. Bobbins with no yarn thereon travel the full length of the conveyor. The cleats on conveyor 20 have extensions to shield the light reflecting ferrules of the bobbins from the photo-cell. |
