The remote gear selector rod(14) is flexible and runs through a hollow centre section(84) of the connecting rod(49). One of the joint support plates(62) is connected at one end to the hollow centre section and on the other side to the gearcase(7), and the other joint support plate(61) is connected to the hollow centre section and to a retaining component(13). The connecting rod has annular dampers(65b,65a) installed in the joint support plates.
