The plug connector (1) has a cylindrical optical cable plug (6) with a coaxial bore receiving the end of the optical fibre cable (2) and a pair of spaced peripheral shoulders (14,15), fitted into a chamber (22) in a connector housing (19) with at least one retaining arm (23) locating behind one of the shoulders upon full insertion of the cable plug. A fuse element (27) is fitted into the connector housing perpendicular to the cable plug insertion direction, for locating behind the second shoulder.
