The present invention provides a modular freight unit (1) being a collapsible pen (1) for use in the shipping industry. The present invention permits alternate uses of the modular freight unit (1). The present invention consists of a collapsible pen (1) erected on a standardized rectangular platform (2) which has at least one side (10) open to air. The pen (1) is made up of modular panels, being side panels (10) and end panels (50). The panels (10 and 50) are attached to the rectangular platform (2), such that the panels (10 and 50) create an enclosed livestock pen (1).
