The present invention provides an electric version of a dispenser unit (20) and method of monitoring a request signal for filling empty baskets (24), movement of the empty baskets on a loading ramp (32) via a stop gate (34), and movement of the filled basket between a loading station (32) and a staging station (40) via a basket lift (38). The stop gate (34) is driven by an electric motor (42), and the basket lift (38) is driven by another electric motor. Sensors are mounted in the stop gate and the basket lift to indicate positions of the stop gate and the basket lift, respectively.
