Foam particles (1) are placed in a gastight film bag (2) which is then placed onto or inside a forming tool (6). Evacuation of the air from the bag effects a dense packing of the particles against the tool surface and while vacuum is maintained the particles are fused together by irradiating with microwaves (5).
