<p>In the engine with ignition (1,2,3,4) and/or injection, where each cylinder is individually controlled, a sensor (7) cooperates with a rotary target (8) with an indexing element indicating top dead centre for a specific reference cylinder. The method for identifying the cylinder phase involves the steps of generating a disturbance on the reference cylinder which results in a change in engine torque. The change in engine torque is detected by a signal representative of the variation in gas pressure. A relationship is established between the time of generation of the disturbance and the detection of its result on the engine torque, in order to derive the reference cylinder phase at the time of generation of the disturbance, and thereafter the phase of the other engine cylinders.</p> |
