A clamp for electrical wiring conductors comprises a screw member 15 and a body 18 having a threaded aperture through which the screw member can be screwed to cause a clamping force to be exerted between a fixed clamping member and a movable clamping member which is movable by the screw member together with a resilient member 17 which is positioned for engagement of said body and is effective due to its resilience to prevent on such engagement, turning of the body on screwing of the screw member to exert such clamping force until a certain value of clamping force is reached at which value further screwing of the screw member will result in turning of said body against the resilience of said resilient member so that the screw member and said body will turn together and thus the clamping force will not be increased further by such further screwing. In the construction shown the clamp includes a generally U-shaped frame 1 having side flanges 2 and 3 by means of which the clamp can be secured at a desired position each of the flanges 2 and 3 having for this purpose two threaded apertures therein into which screws 4 can be screwed. The base of the frame 1 has secured to its inner side the fixed clamping member which comprises a metal plate 5 and a pad 6 of rubber or other resilient material bonded to the plate 5. The movable clamping member comprises a metal plate 7 and a pad 8 which is also of rubber or other resilient material and is bonded to the plate 7. The plate 7 has two projections 9, 10 which engage respectively in slot keyways 11, 12 which extend longitudinally in the two limbs of the frame 1 to guide the movement of the movable clamping member, towards the outer ends of the frame limbs Ithe two keyways are enlarged to receive a crossbar member 16 and the outer edges of the resilient member which is U shaped and which straddles the member 16. The screw 15 passes freely through apertures in the crossbar 16 and the spring member 17 and through a washer 19 or plastics material and a nickel plated washer 20 which are bonded together and screw's into the body 18 which as shown is a nut. The engaging surfaces of the washers 18 and 19 with the nut and the crossbar member prevent the slipping action of the nut being impeded. In a modification the washer 20 is omitted in which case the crossbar member is nickel plated.
