PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an accurate measurement of dimensions of H steel by correcting serpentining thereof. SOLUTION: A flange width Bw of H steel is measured by a pair of two-dimensional range finders 18a and 18b so arranged to sandwich the H steel from the direction parallel with flanges 3a and 3b of the running H steel 1, the degreeΔX of serpentining of the H steel is measured by a pair of two-dimensional range finders 26a and 26b so arranged to sandwich the H steel from the direction orthogonal to the flanges and a web thickness Dw of the H steel is measured by a pair of two dimensional range finders 19d and 19c so arranged to sandwich the H steel from the direction parallel with the flanges. The measured web thickness Dw is corrected by the measured degreeΔX of serpentining.
