PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a cutting edge of a turning tool to be pressed against a cutting face of a work to be cut by preventing deflection or vibration of the tool, and thereby improve productivity. SOLUTION: The tool supporting device is loaded on a slide 1 of a lathe, and is provided with a toolpost 11 for fixing a turning tool 50a for cutting. In this case, the tool 50a is fixed to a tool mounting part 31 of the toolpost 11, with the cutting edge part being projected by a specified length. On one end of the toolpost 11, a tool stay 60 for receiving and supporting the projected part of the tool 50a, projected from the toolpost 11, to prevent deflection of the tool 50a during the cutting operation, is loaded.
