PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial agent having high clinical utility against Helicobacter pylori, and useful for preventive, therapeutic and improving agent of digestive ulcer or gastritis, especially recurrent ulcer or recurrent gastritis by including oxethazaine as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial agent contains oxethazaine of the formula (Me is methyl) as an active ingredient. The antimicrobial agent preferably further contains an inhibitor of a proton pump [preferably rabeprazole (I) or the like]. The daily dose of the antimicrobial agent is normally 1-100, preferably 15-40 mg oxethazaine for an adult. When the inhibitor of the proton pump is used in combination thereof, the combination of the oxethazaine with the inhibitor of the proton pump in the daily dose of 5-40 mg is preferably orally administered.
