PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to curtail the number of parts, to facilitate the mounting work of a coil spring, to improve the workability to assemble a holding member to a connector housing, to prevent the error in assembly and to comply with automation. SOLUTION: This connector is constituted by housing optical fibers 2 into ferrules 3 to form optical fiber plugs 4, inserting the front ends of these optical fiber plugs 4 into the connector housing 6 and inserting the holding member 7 into the connector housing 6 from its rear end. The connector is so constituted as to maintain the front end faces of the optical fiber plugs 4 at a specified distance from internal light emitting and light receiving elements by fitting the connector to a light emitting and light receiving device 8. In such a case, the holding member 7 has insertion holes 41 for inserting the optical fibers 1 in the direction where the optical fiber plugs 4 are inserted into the connector housing 6 and introducing notched holes 45 which communicate with the insertion holes in a direction intersecting with the insertion direction. A ferrule pressing member 5 is mounted at the optical fiber plugs 4 in order to bias the optical fiber plugs 4 inserted into the insertion holes from the introducing notches by the spring after the front end faces of the optical fiber plugs 4 are polished.
