PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive train assembly having an electronic control device to perform automatic control of operation of a multispeed axle assembly. SOLUTION: An electronic control device 20 is provided to operate a transmission 13 in a desired one of a plurality of transmission change gear ratios, operate an axle assembly 14 in a desired one of a plurality of axle change gear ratios, and provide a vehicle with a desired total change gear ratio. The electronic control device 20 responds to one or a plurality of input signals representing the operation parameter of a vehicle. When it is decided that variation of a total change gear ratio is needed, the electronic control device 20 operates one or both of a transmission actuator 15 and an axle actuator 17 so that a desired total change gear ratio is obtained. Decision of whether one or both of a transmission actuator and an axle actuator are operated is effected depending upon a specified change gear ratio, a present total change gear ratio, a desired total change gear ratio, or other factor. |
