PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accelerator composition which is useful for accelerating vulcanization of rubber or plastic compounds. SOLUTION: The objective composition comprises a quaternary ammonium salt chosen from the group consisting of trimethylβ-hydroxyethylammonium hydroxide, carboxymethyltrimethylammonium hydroxide, methylallylbenzylphenolammonium iodide, benzyltriethylammonium chloride, hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride and imidazolium compounds and is especially preferably a choline base compound comprising trimethylβ- hydroxyethylammonium hydroxide and/or a betaine compound comprising carboxymethyltrimethylammonium hydroxide. The composition is used at half the ratio of conventional compositions, is non-toxic and stable and has reduced odor.
