SOLUTION: A cross-linked cyclopentadiene compound having a halogen- containing substituent and expressed by the formula [R1 to R5 are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C hydrocarbon or the like; R3 and R6 are each a divalent 3-10C hydrocarbon forming a condensed ring on a five-membered ring to be bonded; R7 and R8 are each a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon or the like; (m) and (n) are each 0-20; Q is a divalent 1-20C hydrocarbon, silylene or the like] is made to react with a base such as n-butyllithium capable of deprotonating the compound to obtain a reaction product. The reaction product is made to react with a hafnium compound such as HfCl4 in a solvent consisting of a mixed solvent of an aromatic hydrocarbon such as a 6-10C aromatic hydrocarbon and an ether such as a 4-10C aliphatic ether wherein the volume ratio of the aromatic hydrocarbon/the ether is (30/1) to (1/1) to obtain the objective cross-linked hafnocene compound.
