PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage battery having high degassing charge efficiency, wherein a gas such as oxygen or hydrogen is hardly accumulated between an electrode and a retainer in forming its battery container by longitudinally forming recessed parts in a lateral frame rib on at least one surface of a grid body. SOLUTION: It is preferable that laterally-formed recessed parts be provided for a longitudinal frame rib on at least one surface of a grid body, and the recessed parts formed in the longitudinal frame rib or a lateral frame rib be used by positioning them at the upper part of a storage battery. A grid body having the recessed parts 4 and flat parts 5 is formed, by feeding a molten lead alloy by the use of a die, having protruding parts in a part of the lateral frame rib 7 and solidifying it. An electrode plate is composed by alternately forming, for example, on the lateral frame rib 7 at the upper part of the grid body recessed parts 4 which are 0.5 mm deep and 5 mm long and flat parts 5 which are 5 mm long, and filling the grid body with a paste- like activated material. Because a gas hardly accumulates between the electrode and a retainer by virtue of this structure, the battery container formation time is reduced so that workability is improved, electric power required for the formation of the battery container is reduced so that energy can be saved, and the overflow of an electrolyte is prevented.
