PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening/closing element device and a method for closing an opening/closing element, capable of preventing damage to an object and the opening/closing element even if the object is present at a shut part when the shut part is closed by the opening/closing element. SOLUTION: A shutter curtain 5 formed as the opening/closing element of an emergency shutter serving as an opening/closing element device comprises an array of slats 19 formed by hard parts and a flexible sheet 20 formed by a soft part. Even if the shutter curtain 5 unwinding from a winding part 8 and falling because of its own weight in a fire collides against an object present on the floor face 7 of an entrance 4, only deformation of the sheet 20 occurs and damage to the object and the shutter curtain 5 is prevented.
