PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide excellent durability and high photoelectric conversion efficiency, by including a benzene derivative to a charge-carrying layer of a battery made by layering a conductive base material, a photo-sensitive layer including a semiconductor, the charge-carrying layer, and a counter electrode, in this order. SOLUTION: A charge-carrying layer contains a benzene derivative expressed by formula I or formula II. In formula I, X1 to X6 are each oxygen or sulfur atoms, and R1 to R6 are each aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic groups. This benzene derivative, for example, hexamethoxy benzene can be synthesized with a good yield by nucleophilically reacting a hexahalobenzene with phenol, thiophenol, alcohol, or thiol in the existence of a base. In formula II, X7 to X12 are each oxygen or sulfur atoms, and R7 to R12 are each alkyl, alkenyl groups, or the like, R13 to R18 are each halogen atoms, alkyl groups, or the like, and n1 to n6 are each 0 to 4. For example, hexakis (p-methyl phenoxy) benzene is mentioned.
