PREDICTIVE ARITHMETIC UNIT AND IMAGE INFORMATION CONVERTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily extract an output which is not subjected toa product-sum operation with general-purpose performance with respect to number of inputs in the case of generating a prediction value by the product-sum operation between a plurality of pixel values and coefficient data. SOLUTION: A product-sum device 301 consists of multipliers 3021-302n and an adder 303 that sums outputs of the multipliers. The multipliers 3021-302n multiply coefficient data with tap data of a prediction tap. Selectors S1-Sn that select the coefficient data or zero are provided to the multipliers 3021-302n respectively. In the case that number of taps is less than a number (n), the zero data are selected. In the case that the product-sum operation is desired to be evaded, the coefficient data with respect to the tap data that are disregarded are set to 1 and the selectors select the zero data as to the other tap data than above. This system is applied to a prediction device for the image information converter adopting classification adaptive prediction.
