PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily prepare a halogen atom-free polymer while controlling its molecular weight, by polymerizing radically polymerizable monomers. SOLUTION: A radical polymerization initiator system consists of the following components (A) and (B): (A) a halogen atom-free metal complex wherein carbon monoxide and a nitrogen compound are simultaneously coordinated as ligands to a central metal chosen from the group 6 elements of the periodic table; (B) a halogen atom-free compound having a carbon-sulfur bond.
