PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a specific dimer type ammonium salt compound, and to provide an immobilized antibacterial agent having an excellent antibacterial activity and exhibiting a wide antibacterial spectrum by immobilizing the dimer type ammonium salt compound on the surface of a solid material. SOLUTION: This dimer type quaternary ammonium salt compound of the formula [R1, R2 are each a 1-3C alkyl; R3 is a (substituted) 6-18C alkyl; R4 is OH, amino or the like; X is an organic acid residue or an inorganic acid residue; (h), (i) and (k) are each 0-17; (j) is 0; (1) is 0-18]. The immobilized antibacterial agent is obtained by immobilizing the dimer type quaternary ammonium salt compound on the surface of a solid material. The compound of the formula is obtained by reacting a diamine compound with 2.1-2.5 fold moles of a compound such as an alkyl iodide in an organic solvent (for example, methanol) preferably at 50-120 deg.C for 20-70 hr at 1-400 MPa. The immobilization of the compound of the formula on the surface of the solid material is carried out by coating the surface of a resin, etc., with the compound of the formula in an amount of preferably 0.0001-1 g/m2 and subsequently removing the alcohol solvent at room temperature to 130 deg.C for several min to one day.
