PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of an accident such as the leakage of moten steel from a gap between a long side and a short side by making the gap between the long side and the short side constant in the vertical direction of the mold in the case of releasing a clamp between the mold long side and the mold short side for changing the width of the mold short side while casting the molten steel into the mold in a continuous caster. SOLUTION: In a device for clamping a mold long side 1 and a short side 2 in a continuous caster, a hybrid actuator integrally composed of plural hydraulic cylinders 4 provided on the mold long side 1, hydraulic pumps 5 and motors 6 for driving the hydraulic cylinders 4 and positional detectors 7 for a cylinder rod, is installed on the mold long side 1. The pushing pressure to the mold short side 2 is detected with this hybrid actuator and controlled so as to become constant.
