PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to automatically select a means for light or electric signal transmission by a cable to be used by forming input and output terminals in such a manner that these terminals may be integrated to one system. SOLUTION: This plug jack type photo/electric common use transmission device is commonly provided with an optical transmission function and an electric transmission function by inserting an electric plug or an optical fiber plug of an optical fiber cable into a common insertion hole disposed at a holding body 25. The optical fiber plug having an insulating part for identification in at least part of the outer peripheral part varying from the position of the insulating part of the electric plug is made insertable into the insertion hole of the holding body 25 of the device described above. The device is provided with a system identifying means 41 composed of terminals 47 for identification disposed in the positions where the terminals are contactable with the electrode part or insulating layer part of the inserted plug when the optical fiber plug or the electric plug is inserted into the insertion hole of the holding body 25.
