A device is provided on a pleating-machine having pleating knives 4, 5 connected to reciprocating means, for altering the pleating depth of the machine in some predetermined sequence. In the arrangement shown, the essential components of a known pleating-machine are shown in dot-dash lines as comprising main drive-shaft 1, rollers 2, 3; blades 4, 5; blade-carriers 6, 7 and a blade carrier block 8 actuated by a lever 9 oscillated about pivot 9c by roller 10 riding in cam-way 11a The pivot 9c is carried by an adjusting lever 12 pivoted to the machine frame at 12a so that the position of the pivot 9c and thereby the depth of the pleat can be varied in operation. For this purpose a link 20 is adjustably secured to lever 12 at one end and to a crank 21 at the other. The crank 21 is secured on a secondary shaft 17 driven from the main shaft 1 through a pawl and dog arrangement which rotates the shaft 17 in semi-revolutions, thereby displacing the pivot bolt 23 from a position on one side of the line x-y to a position on the other side of line x-y and hence altering the position of pivot 9c and the depth of the pleat. The pawl and dog device can be controlled by a mechanism such as a pin-wheel and a rocking fork arrangement to control the frequency of the adjustment in accordance with a predetermined law. |
