PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the electronic still camera and its photographing method by which the handleability in the case of PAST photographing is considerably enhanced. SOLUTION: A DRAM stores a photographed through-image by one frame until a shutter is half-depressed in the PAST movie photographing mode, the image is fed to a display section, on which the through-image is displayed (figure (a)). Furthermore, when the shutter is half-depressed, the DRAM cyclicly stores 64 through-images at an interval of, e.g., 0.1 sec and the photographing is inhibited till the reception of the 64 images is circulated (figure (b)). That is, the images stored in the DRAM are updated and stored by using 6.4 sec for one period until the shutter is fully depressed (photographed). After the reception of the images is circulated, the photographing is made available (figure (c)) and when photographing operations are conducted, the 64 images including the photographed images are stored in a flash memory (figure (d)).
