PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition having excellent detergent performance and enhanced fixing of a fluorescent brightener to a cloth by incorporating a specific amount of an N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)glutamate and a 4,4'-bis(2- sulfostyryl)biphenyl salt, respectively, into the composition. SOLUTION: N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)glutamate represented by formula I in an amount of 0.2-5 wt.% and 0.01-0.2 wt.% one or more selected from 4,4'-bis(2-sulfostyryl)biphenyl salt and 4,4'-bis(4-chloro-3-sulfostyryl)biphenyl salt represented by formula II, preferably the former are incorporated into a composition. In the formulae, M and M' are each H, an alkali(earth) metal, ammonium or an amino group, and preferably Na. If necessarily, 0.05-2 wt.% polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of 5,000-15,000 and/or 10-50 wt.% surfactant are further incorporated thereinto.
