PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the melting of a base stock while restraining an excessive welding heat input by providing a welding system capable of freely controlling a distribution and concentration of arc heat in a groove surface of the base stock and controlling a heat input density distribution of an arc. SOLUTION: Arc welding equipment by a wire consumable electrode system is provided with a welding torch 2 which is connected to a welding power source 1 and a wire feeding device 7 which feeds a welding wire 3 as a consumable electrode via the welding torch 2. Moreover, the welding torch 2 is rocked in the axial direction of an arc 5 generating within the groove of a stock 4 to be welded which forms e.g. a narrow groove joint, that is, in the vertical direction shown with the arrow. In such a case, the position 1 of the welding torch 2 is periodically rocked in the axial direction of the arc in the groove of the stock to be welded, or welding is executed by controlling a phase difference between the positional fluctuation and the time when an arc current characteristic is changed.
