PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an accurate image depending on the property of an object by an image reader by applying image distortion correction to an object that is a book and not applying image distortion correction to an object other than a book object. SOLUTION: Whether or not an object placed on an original photographing platen is a book is identified based on shape data of the object, and in the case that the object is identified to be a book (YES in #28), a mode where image distortion is automatically corrected is selected (#29) and image distortion is corrected (#32). When it is discriminated that the object is other than a book (NO in #28), no image distortion corrected is applied.
