PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edging method of a metal slab by which yield is not deteriorated, the life of a press tool is prolonged and operation raising production efficiency is enabled at the time of edging the metal slab. SOLUTION: In the edging method by which the side faces of the metal slab 1 which is sent to a hot rolling process are reduced to a prescribed width over the entire length, before executing rolling with a vertical type rolling mill, press processing by which the front end part and rear end part of the metal slab 1 are made into tapered shapes is beforehand executed with the press tools 2 for edging which are arranged opposite to each other on both sides of the conveying pass-line of the metal slab 1 and companioned to each other.
