PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of imparting a bright surface color even on curved surfaces by forming an effective coating film directly on an article to be coated by a simple powder spraying method. SOLUTION: At least one powdered cholesteric liquid crystal polymerizable monomer having formula I: Z-Y-A-Y-M-Y-X1, formula II: [Z-Y-A-Y]2-M-Y-X1 or formula III: [Z-Y-A-Y-M-Y]2-X2 (wherein X1, X2, Y, A, M and Z are each defined in the specification) or at least one powdered non-chiral liquid crystal polymerizable monomer having formula IV: Z-Y-A-Y-M-Y-A-Y-Z and at least one chiral compound which is a base of groups X1 and X2 and/or a monomer of formulae I, II or III are coated onto an article to be coated by a powder spraying method and the coating film on the coated article is heated to a temperature in the mesophase range to cure in the cholesteric phase.
