PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce decoder cost and decoding time by providing a communication device receiving communication at plural different data transmission speeds with a transmission speed discrimination unit, making the discrimination unit receive a coded signal and discriminate a data transmission speed before decoding the coded signal. SOLUTION: An antenna 201 of a variable transmission speed receiver 200 receives a coded signal 202, a demodulator 204 demodulates the coded signal 202 and outputs decoded data 212 and a dispreader 206 dispreads the demodulated decoded data 212 and outputs soft symbol data 214. A transmission speed discrimination unit 208 discriminates the transmission speed of the soft symbol data 214 and outputs a transmission speed display signal 216 to a Viterbi decoder 210. The Viterbi decoder 210 depends on the transmission speed display signal 216 and outputs decoded data 218. That is, the soft symbol data 214 is decoded only one time at the transmission speed of the transmission speed display signal 216.
