PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of partial image missing caused by applying distortion correction to the image. SOLUTION: A scanning area required to execute fine scanning is set base on the preliminary scanning data obtained after preliminary scanning. In the case that a photo film inserted in a film carrier is an APS film (100, Y) and that a print size of print paper is a size C (102, Y), and that application of distortion correction is required (102, Y), the scanning area is set to a size H (106). That is, when it is required to apply distortion correction to the image data obtained by reading an image printed on the photo film, a read range of the image is set wider in range than the print size.
