PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic contactor which can reduce the arc energy flowing in switching contacts and can decrease wear of the contacts. SOLUTION: An electromagnet device of an electromagnetic contactor comprises a put-on coil, a hold coil, and a first 17a and a second stationary core 17b on which the two coils are wound, wherein the put-on coil portions 3a and 3b and the hold coil portions 4a and 4b are wound on the peripheries of the first 17a and second cores 17b in such a way that ones are located inside and the others outside, respectively, and the put-on coil portions 3a and 3b are connected parallel with each other while the hold coil portions 4a and 4b are also connected parallel with each other. Thereby the current flowing through the put-on coil portions 3a and 3b can be reduced, which decreases the whole electromagnetic energy to lead to having of the arc current flowing through switching contacts 22.
