PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost refrigerating device and a refrigerant leakage detecting method to detect leakage of a refrigerant without using a refrigerant sensor and to stably detect leakage of a refrigerant for a long period. SOLUTION: In this air-conditioner, a liquid refrigerant is stored in a refrigerant circuit and the temperature of a liquid refrigerant is detected by a temperature sensor 11 mounted on the lower part of the header of a heat-exchanger 1 on the indoor machine side. Further, a refrigerant leakage deciding part 15 decides that the refrigerant rapidly leaks when the refrigerant temperature detected by the temperature sensor 11 is lowered at a speed exceeding a given value when a compressor 6 is stopped. This air-conditioner detects rapid leakage of the refrigerant by detecting reduction of temperature, occurring when the liquid refrigerant rapidly leaks, by the temperature sensor 11. Thus, leakage of the refrigerant is detected without using a refrigerant sensor like a conventional type and leakage of a refrigerant is stably detected for a long period.
