PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently utilize thermal energy of a heat exchange medium thereby reducing the cost of equipment and maintenance by employing combustion exhaust gases from a coke oven as a heat exchange medium for a dry cooling equipment of coke and utilizing for preheating and drying coal charge into a coke oven a high temperature heat exchange medium exhausted from the dry cooling equipment. SOLUTION: In a dry cooling equipment 2 of coke, is employed, as a heat exchange medium for cooling red hot coke 10, combustion exhaust gases 9 exhausted from a coke oven 1 with its temperature lowered through a heat storage chamber. Besides, in a preheating equipment 3 for coal charge (wet coal 14) into a coke oven, is employed, as a heat source for preheating and drying coal charge into a coke oven, a high temperature exhaust gas 12 exhausted from the dry cooling equipment 2 of coke. If required, the exhaust gas with its temperature lowered after passing the preheating equipment 3 for coal charge into the coke oven is partially circulated and mixed with the high temperature exhaust gas 12 from the dry cooling equipment 2 for coke to give a high temperature gas 16 of a specified temperature, which is employed for preheating a coal charge.
