PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a polymer within a relatively short time while controlling its molecular weight, by radically polymerizing radically polymerizable monomers. SOLUTION: A radical polymerization initiator system consists of the following components (A), (B) and (C): (A) a metal complex wherein carbon monoxide and a phosphorus compound or nitrogen compound are simultaneously coordinated as ligands to a central metal chosen from group 6 elements of the periodic table; (B) a compound having at least one of sulfonyl halide group or a halogen atom linked to a carbon atom having no unsaturated bond; (C) a Lewis acid.
