PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an inharmonious impression, make the apperance extremely excellent, and increase the commodity value by polishing at least the external surface of a metal product to mirror finished surface, polishing a desired specified portion of the external surface by a specified range, and forming a pattern by a difference of the surfaces at the specified portion and the mirror finished surface treated surface. SOLUTION: First, a mirror finished surface polishing is performed on the surface of a pan lid 1 made of stainless steel by procedures of a polishing with a sand paper, a sisal buff polishing and a cotton buff polishing, and then, at a desired portion of the pan lid 1 where the mirror finished surface treatment has been applied, a masking seal member 2 for which a pattern 2a is cut out in advance, is stuck, and then, the portion where the pattern 2a is cut out is polished by a non-woven fabric polishing. When the masking seal member 2 is peeled after the non-woven fabric polishing, on the mirror finished surface treated portion 1a on the pan lid 1, a pattern 3 is formed by a difference in gloss and color of the surface between the specified portion which is polished with the non-woven fabric and the mirror finished surface treated surface 1a. Therefore, a pattern which is harmonious with the mirror finished surface treated surface, and is extremely excellent in appearance can be easily formed.
