PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent loss of luminance, to realize a clear TV image display. SOLUTION: In this display device, a substrate provided with plural electron emitting elements is made to face opposite a transparent substrate provided with a light emitting material through a spacer 10. Here, the spacer 10 is formed by coating an insulating base material with a first layer composed of the oxide of a transition metal, and a second layer composed of the oxide of a transition metal, germanium or bismuth, or a mixture of them, on the outside of the first layer.
