A source of illumination which uses two lasers produces pulses in a luminous train which are made to sweep the fibers in a flexible fiber optic channel by an acoustic optic unit before being delivered to the object through an optical unit. Light returning from the object is separated by deviating mirrors and an image unit selects light after making allowance for instrument trajectory time.
