Production of a surface fiber-reinforced foamed plastic part (1) with an externally accessible insert (6, 7), by molding the core about the protectively covered insert (6, 7) and machining the finished part to access the insert, is new. A surface fiber-reinforced foamed plastic part (1) with an externally accessible insert (6, 7) is produced by: (a) covering the insert (6, 7) with a protective element (8, 9) within a first mold cavity; (b) foaming the core (2) in the first mold; (c) covering the core with one or more fiber sheets and placing it in a second mold for injection of a plastic material such as a resin to impregnate and cover the fiber sheet; and (d) machining the external wall of the part and the protective element to access the insert.
