The inlet cylinder tubes at the branch point (2) are controlled (5) by a rotary slide (6) so that the slide axes are parallel to those of the cylinders. The axes of at least two slides span a plane parallel to the longways engine plane through the cylinder axes. Several slides are actuated by a pushrod (15) acting via levers (11) on the slide shaft (10) aided by pushrod slots (15b) for lever engagement (15a). When returning exhaust to the inlet system via manifold and feeder channels (16), these channels are integrated into the inlet tube branch system (2), using an exhaust return valve for return volume control which lies at the manifold and feeder channel transition.
